ANR got many situations in life where his acting skills were challenged-thereby making him even more perfect and improvise in his performances. Films like Samsaram, Devadasu, Laila Majnu, Mahakavi Kalidasu, Tenali Ramakrishna come in this category. Another film which joined this category is Vipranarayana. When ANR was selected for the lead role who is a staunch devotee and religious person, many critics objected saying how can ANR- an atheist in real life perform in this role. But ANR took it as a challenge and worked very hard to excel in it by taking training under Senior Samudrala.
Story Details:
Vipranarayana (ANR) is a staunch devotee of Sri Ranganatha Swamy who practices strict celibacy and make garlands in the name of god. Devadevi (Bhanumathi) is a prostitute who gets determined in seducing Vipranarayana and eventually he succumbs to her. At one point of time he really falls in love with her and she realizes it as well. Rest of the story is about what happens to these two lead characters of the film.
Performances:
ANR excels in the role of strict devotee in the beginning and a passionate lover after falling for Devadevi . His body language and dialogue delivery perfectly suits the role and he totally gets transformed into the character. Bhanumathi performs par excellence as the determined lady to seduce the devotee and later understanding her mistake and becoming a devotee herself to Sri Ranganatha Swamy. She sang some brilliant songs as well in playback and is fantastic on screen as well.
Technical Aspects:
As Vipranarayana is a musical epic, the songs are fantastic in the film. It is interesting to note that A.M.Raja sang for ANR instead of Ghantasala . Savirahe Thavadina, Endhukoyi Thotamali, Choodamadhe Sivayya and so on are masterpieces in the film. Endhukoyi thotamali was composed in Keeravani raagam one music and literature lover was so fond of that song- he named his son with the raga. That person is none other than veteran music director M.M.Keeravani of Tollywood! Direction by Ramakrishna is another asset for the film.
