While Gang Leader took Chiranjeevi to new heights in the era of Commercial Cinema, Gharana Mogudu established him as the hero with tremendous mass appeal. The way he carried the concept of “Mass”- being fearless, questioning the wrong happenings around, fun filled and entertaining redefined the word “Star Image” in Telugu Cinema. With power packed dances, and non- stop comedy, sentiment , fights – Gharana Mogudu has everything which is needed for a Commercial Film.
Story Details:
The film is a remake of Anuraga Aralithu, a Kannada film starring Rajkumar in the lead and the storyline is based on a Kannada Novel. Raju (Chiranjeevi) is a confident youngster and a good hearted man who helps his co-workers during his employment in Vizag Ship Yard. When his mother suffers a paralytic stroke he decides to move to Hyderabad and is in look out for a new job. Uma Devi (Nagma) looks after her father (Rao Gopal Rao)’s business. She is a very straightforward and determined person in applying the rules- lacking the human touch. With her arrogance, she has a rift with Ranganayakulu (Satyanarayana)’s family when she rejects his son’s marriage proposal. The evil Ranganayakulu plans to kill Uma Devi but as fate could have it, the car has Uma’s father and Raju heroically saves the old man.
After rescuing Uma’s father, Raju casually asks him for a job help in the city. Uma’s father immediately obliges and recommends him to work in his own factory- where Uma is the owner. Raju finds a good friend in Uma’s secretary Bhavani (Vani Vishwanath) and even thinks of marrying her but things turn differently when Uma expresses her wish to marry Raju. Uma finds Raju’s nature quite threatening to the goodwill of the company, and the film goes on in an interesting fashion with scenes involving Raju and Uma.
Performances:
Chiranjeevi is excellent as the good hearted person- and a representative of labour class in the society. His comedy timing, dance performances, and acting in key scenes took the film to a new level. The greeting style of Chiranjeevi in this film-saluting with one hand became a trendsetter. Nagma is brilliant as the arrogant female lead by complementing the huge star image of Chiranjeevi in every scene. She looks glamorous and the same time balanced in her performance. Vani Vishwanath is sweet as the second female lead and joins Chiranjeevi gracefully in some dances as well. Rao Gopala Rao is extremely brilliant as the doting father of Nagma and his scenes with Chiranjeevi speak about their excellent chemistry. Ramaprabha, Brahmanandam, Satyanarayana and so on had their mark in the film as well.
Technical Aspects:
The dialogues for the film were written by Paruchuri Brothers- the powerful duo. The dialogues form the basement of the film with rock steady nature and power packed punches. Music by Keeravani is another asset with out and out commercial songs with melodious value too. Bangaru Kodi Petta, Pandu Pandu, He Pilla- became all time commercial hits for Chiranjeevi. Direction by K.Raghavendra Rao is entertaining as well as perfectly balanced in every frame. The film is high on production values where the first song- Bangaru Kodi Petta was shot in Vizag Ship Yard on a grand scale.
