Neelakanta Naidu (Prakash Raj) is a big factionist and Narasimha (Suman) is his loyal confidant. After giving birth to several dead fetuses, Neelakanta Naidu's wife gives birth to a daughter Gangotri (Aditi Agarwal). Priests warn Neelakanta that the kid is having 'jalagandam' [harm through water], hence they ask Neelakanta to take Gangotri to the holy place of Gangotri in Himalayas and do the 'Abhyangana snanam' (bath with turmeric, milk etc.) for the next 15 years. After 15 years, Gangotri would be free of any dangers.
Simhadri (Allu Arjun) is Narasimha’s son who entertains the girl with his songs. Later differences arise between Neelakanta Naidu and Narasimha. Neelakanta kills Narasimha misunderstanding him to alley with his opposition. Simhadri comes to Neelakantam's house and challenges that he would marry Gangotri in 365 days. And the rest of the story is about how he wins the challenge.
Gangotri is the debut movie of the Allu scion. The movie had gained tremendous hype and expectations due to the debut reason and super success of the music album. However, the movie was an average to content but managed to become a hit for name sake with excellent publicity.
