Sundeep Kishan came out with yet another impressive performance. His boy next door looks slid into the role perfectly. His presumptuous nature is cool and elevates his character as a spoiled brat. Sundeep comedy timing seems to be improving with every film, however he has to do a lot of homework in emotional scenes. His dialogue delivery is not up to the mark in action sequences.
Rakul Preeth Singh is pretty and came out with decent performance, although in a limited role. She looked gorgeous in Mella…Mellaga song.
There are many other comedians like MS Narayana, Dasthagiri, Praveen, Thagubothu Ramesh, all of them played their party in evoking laughter. Nagineedu is good in the role of a strict father. Others were okay. Allari Naresh’s voice-over introducing the characters is funny.
The debutant Merlapaka Gandhi earlier directed a short film ‘Karma Ra Devuda’ which won several awards. He seems to have proved his mettle with his first film. The subject of the film is very simple but the treatment did the trick. The screenplay is well written and the comedy is well handled. He narrated the first half very well but was left with very little options in the second half making you feel the film a little lengthy and predictable. The climax itself is pale with some scenes resembling Bommarillu.
Chota K.Naidu, a close relative of Sundeep Kishan handled camera for the film and he is good as usual. Senior Editor, Gautam Raju did a decent job in the first half but missed the trick in the second half. Art department does a decent job as well. Production values are okay.
The first half of Venkatadri Express is funny and second half is passable. A better pre-climax and climax could have won more marks for the film. Good comedy and screenplay make it a worth watch over the weekend. Go with out expectations and we are sure you will get thrilled.
