Venkata Ratnam Naidu (Pawan Kalyan) alias Gabbar Singh has a step brother (Ajay). He doesn't like his mother and stepfather taking extra care of him. In an incident, he gets in a quarrel with his father and runs away. Years later he becomes a police officer and gets posted in his native place Kondaveedu. Later, Gabbar Singh falls in love with Bhagya Lakshmi (Sruthi Hassan) who runs a ladies emporium there. Gabbar Singh locks horns with Local baddie (Abhimanyu Singh) who aims for an MLA ticket and what happens next between them forms the actual story.

Gabbar Singh is the official Telugu remake of Bollywood Super hit movie, Dabangg. The movie stood to the hype and expectations surrounding it and later went on to become the second biggest grosser in Telugu film industry after Magadheera. This movie can be termed as comeback movie for Pawan Kalyan at the box office as he had no real money spinner after his Jalsa which released many years before that.

The movie unit visited Tirumala Tirupati and Simhachalam temple (Vizag) on a private chopper to receive the gods blessings. Later the audio was released in Hyderabad, the same evening.
There was news that Harish and Pawan are going to team up for the sequel of the movie titled 'Gabbar Singh in Hyderabad'.
