Rakhi – Rama Krishna (NTR) is the son of a Railway clerk. He gets his sister Gayatri (Manjusha) married to a software professional giving good dowry. Later the groom’s family harasses Gayatri for more dowry and finally kills her. Rakhi then takes law in to his hands and starts killing people who harass women. In this process, he enters in to tussle with a politician (Sayaji shinde). Rest of the story is what happens to Rakhi after he commits 49 murders.
Trade
Rakhi was released amidst huge expectations, thanks to the chartbuster audio of Devi Sri Prasad. However, the targeted family audience did not receive the movie well due to NTR’s stout personality and several other reasons, finally ending up as a flop.
Highlights
This is the first combination of NTR and Ileana. Later they paired up once again for Shakthi.
Charmee played the role of NTR’s niece in the movie.
This was the first combination of NTR and creative director Krishna Vamsi as well.
Rakhi was unarguably the best performance of NTR till date. He even went on to the extent of allowing the heroine to call him ‘Bondam’ (fatty) despite being a star.
Yester year actress Suhasini played the role of a cop in the movie.

NTR has undergone liposuction after the release of Rakhi on the advice of S.S. Rajamouli and turned everslimmer now.
NTR’s dialogue about Indian Railway, the climax dialogue and several other dialogues in the movie became very popular then.
