Mahamantri Timmarusu is one of the greatest classics in Telugu Cinema as far as films made on History are concerned. After the success of Tenali Ramakrishna, Sr.NTR played the role of Sri Krishnadevaraya yet again in this film.
The film revolves mainly around the relationship between the Emperor Sri Krishnadevaraya and his trustworthy minister Timmarusu whom he calls fondly as Appaji. The Emperor treats his minister with utmost respect because the latter was like a guardian for him right from his childhood. Things turn crucial with the sad demise of Emperor’s Son because of cruel act of his enemies- and Appaji is found guilty of the crime. Rest of the story is about what happens to the great bonding Emperor has with his minister and the confrontation between affection and law enforcement.
Trade
Sr. NTR excels as the Emperor Sri Krishnadevaraya in the film. He unleashes never-before-seen shades of the emperor such as anger, and adamancy- as far as punishing his guardian and minister Appaji. The internal struggle Emperor goes through after he imposes the punishment to his closest person Appaji was phenomenally shown by Sr.NTR.
As the film is named after his character Appaji, Gummadi shines in the lead role as the concerned and innocent minister. Being caught in a wrong place in the wrong time, the helplessness and the utter shock of his Emperor imposing the punishment on him was portrayed brilliantly by Gummadi. This is another jewel in his film career which proved yet again why Gummadi is a fantastic character actor of Telugu Cinema.
