Overview

Sukumar is the frontrunner of very few Telugu directors who bring novelty and creativity in the story and screenplay departments. All the films he made act as merit certificates for the director as well as improving standards of Telugu cinema.

  • Personal Life

    Sukumar Bandreddi is born in Mattaparu Village near Razole (East Godavari District). He completed his schooling in ZP high school of Razole and graduated from Government College, Razole. He started his career as a mathematics lecturer at Aditya Educational Institutions in Kakinada.
     
    Sukumar married Hamsini and theirs is a love marriage. The couple has a daughter.

  • Career

    ven though a lecturer, Sukumar is a voracious reader and he read German literature very much. Under the influence of movies, he took the train to Hyderabad.  He initially worked for Editor Mohan’s films. He worked as script associate and assistant director for the films Manasichi Choodu, Kshemanga Velli Labhanga Randi and Hanuman Junction. Editor Mohan mostly works on remake films which are not to Sukumar’s liking. He then joined Dil Raju for Dil movie directed by VV Vinayak.
     
    Sukumar’s first break came with Allu Arjun’s Aarya in Dil Raju’s production.  The film was a super hit and a game changer for Allu Arjun’s career. He was supposed to work for Dil Raju and Allu Arjun in his second film but the project did not materialize and the result is a three years gap after a blockbuster. Sukumar suffered depression then and it was then he approached Ram and Sravanthi Ravi Kishore through YVS Chowdary and thus Jagadam materialized. However, the movie did not farewell at the box office despite the critical acclaim.
     
    After Jagadam debacle, Sukumar took two years gap and worked keenly on the sequel to Aarya. The combination of Allu Arjun, Sukumar and Dil Raju is back and the movie opened with good talk. However, the films run was highly affected due to the Telangana issue then and ended up as a loss in Nizam territory.
     
    In 2011 came Naga Chaitanya and Tamannah’s 100% Love. The movie is a simple love story embroiled with egos between a couple. The film struck chord with the audience and it went to become the biggest grosser in Naga Chaitanya’s career then. Sukumar’s recent film, 1-Nenokkadine was termed as a film which takes Film industry to next level both in terms of technicalities and content but the movie did not impress the average film audience and ended as a big failure.
     
    Production: 
    Sukumar recently started his production house ‘Sukumar Productions’ to encourage new and fresh talent. His first production venture is Kumari 21 F starring Raj Tharun and Sheena Bajaj. He is also proving story and screenplay to the film.
     
    Short Films: 
    Sukumar directed his first ever Short film in 2014. The short film ‘Iam That Change’ starring Allu Arjun is a thought provoking concept which advocates social responsibility in every one.

    • Sukumar is known to be a director who never compromises. His movies take more number of working days to complete and budget often goes more than the estimation.
    • Sukumar and Devi Sri Prasad’s combination is a deadly one. Albums in their combination have always been chartbusters.
