Srinu Vaitla hails from the village of Kandulapalem, East Godavari District. He lost his mother at very young age. Due to his love for cinema, his education did not progress well.
In 2001, Srinu Vaitla and Roopa met through a common friend in a party and dated together for one and half years before marriage and finally they got married. They have three girl children – Aanandi, Aadhya and Ahana.
At the age of 17, he moved to Chennai to try his luck in films. He joined as an apprentice in 1990 on the sets of Balakrishna starrer Prananiki Pranam, directed by Chalasani Rama Rao. Later, he worked as Assistant director under several directors.
His first movie as director was Nee Kosam introducing Ravi Teja as a hero who was until then a sidekick. The movie did not work out well commercially but got several Nandi awards including Second Best Featured film and Best debut director. The biggest break in his career came with his second movie, Anandham which was a big success with the audience and at the box office. But his next two films, Sontham and Anandamanadhamaye could not match the standards set by Anandham.
In 2004, the second hit of his career came in the form of Venky starring his first film hero, Ravi Teja. The movie also laid foundation for him to bag a movie with Megastar Chiranjeevi. But the movie, Andarivaadu did not do well at the box office.
Vaitla took a two year break after Andarivaadu and made his comeback with Dhee starring Manchu Vishnu who has all flops till then. The movie went on to become a huge hit and from then there is no looking back. His next movie, Dubai Seenu was a decent hit and the movies that followed – Ready, King were super hits followed by one more average in the form of Namo Venkatesa with Victory Venkatesh.
2011 was significant year in Srinu Vaitla’s filmography. His Dookudu with Mahesh Babu went on to become the second biggest hit in Tollywood history then. It is also the biggest hit in Mahesh Babu’s career so far. In 2013, he delivered one more hit in the form of Baadshah. The movie is also the biggest hit in NTR’s career till date.
2014 was a miserable year for Srinu Vaitla. The golden touch he enjoyed all those years is gone and the rude shock came in the form of Mahesh Babu's Aagadu. The movie not only resulted in a failure but also embroiled him in severe controversies with Kona Venkat - Gopimohan and Prakash Raj. The controversies even resulted in open spat between them in media.
However, he has moved on with yet another promising action packed entertainer Bruce Lee The Fighter (featuring Ram Charan, Rakul Preet & others) that will hit in October.
