Singing Career:
After her studies, the urge of cinema tempted her to learn music at the Musicians Institute in California, USA. And from there, there is no looking back for her. She sang several songs in Tamil and Hindi. Once she turned in to actress, she stopped singing in outside movie but occasionally lent her voice for songs in her own movies.
Acting Career:
Her acting career did not begin planned as it happens for most star kids. She made a little cameo as the daughter of Vallabhbhai Patel in Hey Ram directed by her father, based on a murder attempt of Mahatma Gandhi. Later, there were several offers coming her way but she kept on rejecting them. Finally she signed in a Tamil movie, Endrendrum Punnagai opposite Madhavan but the movie never went on floors.
Finally, the much publicized debut took place in Soham Shah's Hindi film Luck opposite Imran Khan in July 2008. She almost did everything for the movie - acted in a dual role, performed stunts without double body and donned bikini. But none of them could help the movie at the box office. Critics launched a scathing attack on her calling her ‘a dull girl of a great dad’. She stayed away from grease paint for some time but not cinema. She along with famous rap singer Blaaze appeared in the promotional videos for Kamal Hassan's Unnaipol Oruvan and Eenadu. She even composed music for the both the bilingual films and further she made an appearance in a promotional video for the horror film Hisss starring Mallika Sherawat, in which she also sang a song.
In 2011, her next film, Anaganaga O dheerudu released and opened to good reviews for her acting. But the movie went on to register a failure. And in between 2011 and 2012, she acted in Dil Toh Baccha Hai Ji, 7aum Arivu, 7aum Arivu and 3. But the lady luck did not smile at her and she was even termed ‘Iron Leg’. The Telugu remake of Dabangg, Gabbar Singh which released in 2012 changed all her fortunes. The movie went on to become a blockbuster and from then there is no looking back for her.
Just as her father, Shruti did not chase at anyone just for the sake of making money. She bagged one more hit in Telugu with Balupu. She recently had two releases in Bollywood on a single day – Ramaiya Vastavaiya and D-Day. Both of the movies received good reviews and she is one of the most sought actresses in the Hindi land now. And in Telugu, she is pairing up with top actors like Ram Charan, NTR and Allu Arjun.
Ramayya Vastavayya is her first film with Jr NTR. Even though her role was very small, it was a very important one in terms of story. But the movie did not do well at box office.
However she came back strongly in 2014 with Allu Arjun's Race Gurram. The film went to the become the biggest hit of the year and the biggest grosser in Allu's career.
Later in the year, she danced for her first ever Special song in Mahesh Babu's Aagadu. The song was greeted to huge applause despite the film failed at the box office. She is now acting in Mahesh Babu's next directed by Koratala Siva which will release later in 2015.
