Prabhas made his debut in to the Telugu movie industry with the movie Eeshwar (2002). The young, tall, handsome and promising actor has convinced the audience and critics that he shall be raising and racing among the top reputed heroes of Telugu cinema in that era. With his hot bod (body) and ‘not so far seen’ acting style, it is not an exaggeration to say that Prabhas had made the Telugu audiences fall head over heels for his personality in his first film itself.
Having made a promising start, his next attempt to take off with the sentimental and conventional ‘Angry Young Man’ image Raghavendra was indeed a commercial dud but he did score brownie points. Not before long the super hit movie Varsham released. This film was in fact a sensation outdoing its competitor Anji, a Chiranjeevi’s film (Both the films released on the same date 14th Jan). All of a sudden, Prabhas was into the league with his first blockbuster. Post Varsham, when Prabhas was almost losing his vein with a couple of flops Adavi Ramudu and Chakram, metaphorically a numb silence before a massive storm like Chatrapathi, directed by S.S. Rajamouli, that hit in 2005 – his second blockbuster!
Rajamouli expressed his affection for Prabhas in an interview saying "Prabhas’ physical appearance itself is a great asset for him. He thinks a lot about the character he is portraying.”
Chakram has in a way showcased the actor in Prabhas and creative director Krishna Vamsi has been successful in this through his all-time classic "Jagamantha Kutumba Naadi…” song in the film, while Chatrapathi has redefined Prabhas as an actor and a commercial hero as well. Chatrapathi which brought him abundant mass following was a boon but in a way typecast him turning out to be a curse as well [Thanks to the unbeaten director S.S. Rajamouli].
But there lies the difference, Prabhas never wavered to experiment! All he intended was to come up with something new with every film he did, be it in terms of the subjects he chose viz. a classical subject like Pournami, a sentimental drama like Yogi, the angry young man in Munna, the styling of the character and whatnot! But, due to consecutive flops, he turned apprehensive towards fledgling directors.
Followed by the much anticipated Bujjigadu, directed by Puri Jagannath that didn’t do wonders for this Young Rebel star but an unseen Prabhas was unveiled that turned him the Darling of the industry. With the typical vernacular Godavari accent and body language he put up in the film was no wonder a stunner and undoubtedly a tailor made for this suave actor.
Director Puri Jagannath says "I always love to work with Prabhas. He is a like a kid at heart and very nice human being”
When he was having the see-saws of his life, yet another experiment Darling, a love story by Karunakaran [Director of Tholi Prema, Happy etc.] and a consecutive Mr. Perfect by Dasarath [Director of Santhosham, Sambaram etc.] have made this mass star a heartthrob and a perfect family man earning him successive hits and colossal ladies and family fan base respectively. The entire facet of Prabhas and his image have taken a U-turn with these two films. His next movie Rebel couldn't reach his fans expectations.
Today not only the masses, but indeed the families and ladies await his film. And so did Mirchi step in the right moment, satisfying his fan base registering an all-time record hit in his career so far.
