K.V. Guhan is one of the most sought cinematographers down the South. Despite being a Tamilian, his repertoire contains more Telugu films than Tamil.

Personal Life

K.V.Guhan hails from Coimbatore, Tamil Nadu. He is born and brought up in Chennai. His father T. Kulandaivelayudam worked with the directorate of examinations as superintendent. Kulandaivelayudam has four sons and Guhan is youngest of all. His brother, Saran worked with K.Bala Chander and is a good director and producer in Kollywood now.

He completed his diploma in Mechanical Engineering.
Career

Filmy Career:

After completing his diploma, Guhan first joined in the editing department of Bala Chander with the recommendation of his brother. After 3-4 years with Bala Chander, he left the editing work and joined as an assistant under renowed Cinematographer PC Sree Ram. He made his debut with the Hindi version of Kushi film in 2003. In the same year, he forayed in to Telugu cinema with Mahesh Babu’s Naani. It was only in 2004, he made debut in his mother tongue, Tamil with ‘New’ film. His camera work in Mahesh Babu’s Athadu is a landmark film in Guhan’s career. The movie was a testimony of Guhan’s attention to detail and technical prowess.

After Athadu, Guhan became favourite for Trivikram Srinivas and Mahesh Babu. He worked for Trivikram’s Jalsa and Mahesh Babu’s Dookudu and Seethamma Vaakitlo Sirimalle Chettu. He also worked for Prakash Raj’s Payanam, Dhoni and Ulavacharu Biriyani. His recent work in Telugu is Baadshah. Srinu Vaitla is very impressed with his work in Dookudu and immediately roped him for Baadshah. As a result of these films, his filmography contained more Telugu films despite being a Tamilian.

As Director:

Guhan made his directorial debut in 2010 with a Tamil film, Inidhu Inidhu. It is the Tamil remake of Sekhar Kammula’s Happy Days. It was produced by Prakash Raj under his Duet Movies banner. However the movie did not fare well at the box office.
Trivia
- Srinu Vaitla is a hard task master. He changed 3 cameramen for Dookudu. After working with Andrew, Jayanan Vincent and RD Rajashekar, he settled with Guhan. Impressed by his work, he also continued him for Baadshah too.
