Hansika appeared in serials like Shaka Laka Boom Boom and Des Mein Niklla Hoga Chand as Child artist. Her first film was Puri Jagannadh’s Desamudhuru for which she won the Filmfare Award for Best Female Debut – South. She also made her Bollywood debut with Himesh Reshmiya’s Aap Ka Suroor and Kannada debut with Bindass.
After a promising start in Telugu, she was paired with NTR in Kantri which was an average grosser. But the next few years were even tougher, she was limited to only small movies and not much to do second heroine roles (Maska, Billa, Jayeebhava, Seetha Ramula Kalyanam). At the same time she continued doing Bollywood movies without making significant breakthroughs. Her Tamil stint is even worse with two unsuccessful movies, Mappillai and Engeyum Kadhal.
However, her fortunes changed with the release of Tamil movie, Velayudham in 2010. She became dearer to Tamil fans there and good offers started to follow her. In the same year, she had a good success in Telugu in the form of Kandireega. However, her Telugu stint remained patchy with Oh My Friend being average, Denikaina Ready a hit, Something Something a flop and Singham an average. After a long time she managed to get a blockbuster in Telugu with Ravi Teja’s Power but the film result did not get any good offers for her in Telugu. On the other side, she cruised in to top league and hearts of Tamil audience with several hit movies.
