Gopichand's father, T.Krishna is well known director who delivered red-classics like Pratighatana, Repati Pourulu, Neti Bharatham. He expired due to cancer when Gopichand was 8 years old. His brother worked as an associate director to Mutyala Subbayya. Exactly when Premchand started a film under his home banner, he breathed his last in an unforunate car accident. Gopichand also has a sister who is a dentist. Gopichand completed his Engineering in Russia.
Gopichand is recently married to married Reshma, niece of actor Meka Srikanth.
After taking one year dialogue modulation course with Veteran actor Kakarala, Gopichand started his filmy career with Tholi Valapu (2001) but the movie went on to become a big disaster. The turning point of his career came the next year when Jayam released. Gopichand donned the role of baddie and he won accolades for its excellent portrayal. He continued villain roles in Nijam and Varsham.
Though he earned good name in the villain roles, the ‘Hero’ bug bit him once again and he played lead role in AS Ravi Kumar Chowdary’s Yagnam, Parchuri Murali’s Andhrudu and Amma Rajashekar’s Ranam. All the movies were good hits. However things turned topsy-turvy for him later with back to back box office failures in the form of Ra Raju and Okkadunnadu. Finally, Lakshyam which released in 2007 brought him the biggest hit of his career.
Next followed Ontari in 2008 which was again a disaster and the Souryam that released the same year went on to become a decent hit. When things looked rosy for him, a string of flops followed once again –Sankham, Golimaar, Wanted and Mogudu. When everyone started writing him off, he bounced back in 2013 with Sahasam. The movie is the costliest movie in Gopichand’s career but went on to become a decent hit.
