Born as Surdeep Kaur Uppal, Charmi Kaur is born to a Punjabi-Sikh couple, Deep Singh and Surjith Kaur, in Vasai near Mumbai. She has shifted to Hyderabad and had been living here for the past 6 years for the love Telugu cinema. She is very interested in Swimming and dancing since her childhood and is also an expert in body fitness.
Few media linked her with Music director Devi Sri Prasad but none of them confirmed it and she is still unmarried.
Charmi’s first filmy appearance turned in to reality in 2002 with Telugu film, Nee Thodu Kavali in which she acted as a housewife at a young age of 15. The movie went on to become a big failure but at the same time earned her a chance to make a debut in Tamil (Kadhal Azhivathillai) and Malayalam (Kattuchembakam) in the same year. But both the movies and met the same fate as her Telugu debut. She acted in couple more Tamil films only to disappoint.
Her reentry in to Telugu happened with Neeke Manasichhaanu beside Srikanth which was again a flop. However despite the commercial status of the films, she went on to sign movies. In 2005, she scored thumbs up for her performances in Sri Anjaneyam, Mass, Chakram. In 2006, Anukokunda Oka Roju, a heroine centric film starring Charmi went on to become a big hit and from then, there is no looking back for her.
She went to act several stars in Tollywood from then – Allari Pidugu beside Balakrishna, Lakshmi beside Venkatesh, Pournami beside Prabhas, Rakhi beside NTR. Interestingly, Charmi also has the accolades of having good success with heroine centric films like Anukokunda Oka Roju, Mantra and Mangala. She even went on two win Nandi awards for her performance in Mantra and Mangala.
In 2011, she made her Bollywood debut in a little role beside Amitabh Bachchan in Bbuddah Hoga Tera Baap. Her second Bollywood appearance is a full length role beside Vivek Oberoi in Zilla Ghaziabad. Both of them went on to become flops. On the other side, her career in Tollywood slowed down after 2007. She started confining herself to special roles, item numbers and heroine centric films.
