Anushka made her acting debut in Puri Jagannath's film Super in 2005 starring opposite Akkineni Nagarjuna. Her second film is Mahanandi, which was a moderate success at box office. By then she captured the attention of Ace Director S. S. Rajamouli and bagged the heroine role in Vikramarkudu pairing with Raviteja for the first time. The film became very successful and made her the sought after heroine in the Telugu cinema industry.
She debuted in the Tamil film industry with the movie Rendu (2006), sharing screen space with R. Madhavan. Later that year, she made a special appearance in A. R. Murugadoss's directorial debut in Telugu, Stalin. She later did Lakshyam, which was a decent hit. Later she starred in Raghava Lawrence's Don opposite Nagarjuna for the second time. Unfortunately the movie failed.
Her subsequent releases were Swagatam and Baladoor. Both the movies garnered poor reviews and box office returns. She next appeared in the film Souryam with Gopichand which became a box office hit. Later she did Chintakayala Ravi with Victory Venkatesh.
Few films in any actors career remain as path-breaking milestones. Anushka got her career-changing master piece through Arundhati. She etched the role of ‘Jejamma' to such a length that people flocked to the theaters just to see her character. She essayed another role in that movie portraying a typical character. She handled the variance in each character in an intelligent manner. Post Arundhati Anushka was drenched in the applause of the critics as well as the common viewers of Andhra Pradesh. Indeed, Arundhati became a landmark film for Anushka.
She later acted in Billa opposite Prabhas which was a remake of a Tamil film with the same name, which in turn is a remake of Amitabh Bachchan's old Hindi film, Don.
Prabhas expressed his opinion about Anushka in an interview "She talks to everyone on the sets, from the light boy to the producer and makes everyone feel comfortable. It is beautiful to work with Anushka. If the story suits us I always prefer Anushka to be my co-star. She is a good human being.”
Unlike her previous roles, Anushka chose a challenging and out of the box character in Vedam and surprised the audience again with her acting caliber. She played ‘Saroja', a struggling prostitute who plans an escapade to venture her own brothel house. "I feel so fortunate that a heroine like Anushka not only agreed to the role of ‘Saroja' but also reduced her remuneration. She has put her heart into the character and made it lively” said director Krish in a chit chat.
Anushka thrilled the audience and scored brownie points with her lively and jubilant acting in Mirchi opposite Prabhas. The movie ended up as the biggest hit in Prabhas' career. Her Varna, a whopping 50 Crore budget film and Linga opposite Superstar Rajinikanth, both ended up as a big disasters.
However, her outings in 2015 - Baahubali The Beginning (July 10) & Rudramadevi (Oct 9) emerged to be historic hits recording humongous collections at the box office across the globe indeed making her a Superstar.
Anushka's yet to release Size Zero under the direction of Prakash Kovelamudi is schedued to hit the screens this Nov 27, 15.
