Born in Andhra Pradesh, Anjali rose to fame with Tamil movies. Irony is that she failed to impress audience with her Telugu debut and later became popular with the dubbed Tamil movies back home and is finally, one of the most promising actresses in Telugu now.

Personal Life

Anjali is born in a remote town, Razole in East Godavari, Andhra Pradesh. She has two brothers and completed her schooling there. At the age of 15, Anjali was adopted by her aunt, Bharati Devi and moved her to Chennai. Anjali completed her degree in Mathematics there.
Career

Since her college days, Anjali appeared in several short films and in several modeling assignments. And those paved way for her filmy debut with Telugu film, Photo in 2006. Later she acted in one more Telugu movie, Premalekha Raasa in 2007. Both of them failed miserably at the box office. She made her Tamil debut that year with Kattradhu Thamizh, directed by Ram. She was an instant hit with Tamil audience and also won her Best debut awards at many award functions that year.

Her major break arrived in 2010 with the release of Vasanth Balan’s Angadi Theru. The movie was a huge hit in Tamil and the dubbed version of the movie, Shopping Mall was super hit in Telugu too. Her performance in the movie also got her the Filmfare Award for Best Actress – Tamil. Her position in Telugu consolidated with one more hit the following year with another dubbing movie, Journey (Engaeyum Eppothum in Tamil). Offers started coming her way in Telugu from then.

Her biggest break in Telugu came in the form of Seethamma Vakitlo Sirimalle Chettu (2013) in which she played a very homely character, Seetha beside Venkatesh. She received huge appreciation from audience as well as critics with this movie. During the same year 2013, she also appeared in one more performance oriented role in Ravi Teja’s Balupu which is also a big hit. She ended up the year with a flop film Masala opposite Venkatesh and sizzling special appearance in Suriya’s Singham 2. In 2014, Anjali acted in a heroine oriented Horror Comedy, Geethanjali which ended up as one of the biggest hits of the year in terms of Return on Investment.
Trivia

In April 2013, Anjali issued a press notice that her step-mother Bharathi Devi and director Kalanjiyam are harassing her and using her as an ATM. She threatened to lodge a police complaint. Later, she suddenly disappeared from a hotel in Hyderabad and went missing for a week. Later she appeared before Hyderabad Police commissioner and explained her version. Director Kalanjiyam lodged a defamation case on her which is currently being heard in courts.
