Superstar Krishna is one unique actor who gave life to Telugu films based on Crime Detection. Though there were films on similar themes before Krishna did, but it was his films which created a new dawn in Telugu Cinema. It is interesting to note that Krishna’s third film in his career was based on James Bond series. That is none other than 'Gudhachari 116' released in 1966. Produced by Vijayalakshmi Pictures and having Sundarlal Nahata and Dundi as producers, M. Mallikarjuna Rao as director, this film had Arudra in the lyrics and dialogues department. Inspired by an English movie “Panic at Bangkok”, Arudra made this film. This was the first film which had Jayalalitha pair Krishna.
With Thathineni Chalapathi Rao as the music director, Gudhachari 116 was tremendously successful. With Thene Manasulu and Kanne Manasulu in his career before this movie, this film could get Krishna a great path for his future acting career. With his unique and energetic acting skills in songs like “Dee Ri Diri”, “Manasu Theera Navvule”, “Erra Buggala Meedha Manasunte”, Krishna could create a new wave in action sequences as well. Sobhan Babu, who already established himself as a good hero then, had a guest appearance in this film. With the success of 'Gudhachari 116', Krishna was called as James Bond in Telugu Cinema.
As a result of this, in the process of repeating history, Krishna had many films such as Upayamlo Apayam, Ave Kallu, Asadhyudu, Sarkar Express, Nenante Nene, Love in Andhra, Andhariki Monagadu, Master Khiladi, James Bond 777 and so on which were based on similar theme. Most of these aforementioned films were highly successful and made Krishna a trendsetter. This trend continued till Mosagallaki Mosagadu and turned him towards Cow Boy films next in his career.
