1963. It was the year Jagapathi Art Pictures production house was planning to make their third film Atma Balam. Acharya Athreya was writing the Dialogues and Lyrics for it. The producer V.B.Rajendra Prasad took Athreya to Bangalore in order to write lyrics for a duet between ANR and B.Saroja Devi. As usual, the hotel bill was increasing but the needed song was not coming from Athreya. But the producer patiently waited for the right result.
It was the next day’s early morning when perhaps Athreya garu got concern on the producer! Saying he would write a song today at any cost, Athreya garu took the producer in car. The car zoomed in Bangalore roads- in the midst of early morning fog.
But Athreya did not get the much needed inspiration yet. And then, suddenly there was a cool breeze, and the rain clouds started gathering. A pleasant drizzle started and a lightning struck the sky. Athreya’s pen also moved in the speed of a lightning. They went around in car all over the roads of Bangalore and by the time they reached the hotel room, the song was ready. Very soon, K.V.Mahadevan composed the tune for the lyrics and the first hit rain song in Telugu Cinema came into being at a speed of a lightning!
That song is none other than “Chitapata Chinukulu Paduthu Unte..Cheli Kaade Sarasana Unte..Chettapatta ga chethulu kalipi..Chettu needakai parigeduthunte..Cheppaleni Aa Haayi Entho Vecchaga untundhoyi..!”
