1984 was the time when a new wave in Telugu Cinema began. Vamshi emerged as a director with different view and thought process after he made his mark through his debut film as director, Sitara. He wanted to make a thriller movie as its follow up. He went to stay in Araku valley’s Forest Guest House to get story idea for this thriller and he eventually succeeded in making the story in fifteen days.
As soon as the story was finished, Vamshi approached his guide and mentor Maestro Ilayaraja. Both of them decided to travel to Madhurai for the composing sessions. They reached a hotel named “Tamil Nadu” (Ilayaraja’s favorite place for staying) and decided to sit for composing sessions. While Vamshi was giving a sigh of relief after reaching the hotel, Ilayaraja’s assistant hurriedly came up asking him to get ready for the story narration as Ilayaraja is already with the harmonium for the task.
Vamshi immediately got alerted and when he opened his suitcase to find the script file- a shock came in return. The script file was missing! After pacifying himself, Vamshi reached Ilayaraja’s room. When Ilayaraja promptly asked him for the story, Vamshi started saying whatever came to his mind as the story. Then Maestro found some confusion in the story (Obviously!) and asked Vamshi to explain some situations. Vamshi then created few situation on the spot to which Ilayaraja in return composed some amazing masterpieces. And the process of explaining situation and composing the music continued in that fashion.
Vamshi was a genius in his own accord here in that he re-wrote the story based on the phenomenal tunes given by Ilayaraja on the spot. This small trivia gives us an insight about great friendship and incredible professionalism of the two as far as film-making is concerned. Even till date- Anveshana is best remembered for the fantastic songs and re-recording given by Ilayaraja and peculiar but innovative camera work by director Vamshi.
