Pooja Kumar is not just some actor. Not a very usual one. We don’t see many Indian Origin Americans in Telugu mainstream movies but Pooja is an exception. During her days in American Academy of Dramatic Arts, she sure did learn some good stuff.
The actress was first known to Telugu movie admirers through Vishwaroopam, originally a Tamil movie which was later dubbed in many languages including Telugu and Hindi. She has done some important films in Telugu and Tamil. But she says GV (Garuda Vega) is really different from the others she has done.
She says, this movie incorporates the effects of Hollywood movie making at the same time retaining the Indian Melodramatic sentimental scenes. Which is a very good thing to know.
The Mix of those two was lacking till now, but we don’t have to worry about that. May be more movies of this sort may turn up. This is a start for something big. With Baahubali 1 and 2, Telugu movie industry really teared the boundaries and dove into the deeper parts of movie making. Garuda Vega may be the one of the very first to follow this trend.
When people pay for Indian thriller they need at least a feel of the subtle sentimental scenes that usually occupy most of the movie time.
The actress adds that they have shot the movie in some of the most difficult locations and she says that it was really challenging. The budget of the movie was really in the league of mainstream action thrillers. A budget of 25Cr does really weighs heavy on the pockets of the producers but according to the actor the characters and narration was well crafted by Praveen Sattaru, which is sure to bring more profits than they may expect.
She says, when the script and character are extremely good, it is extremely hard to get the role. The international film space is already cranked up with tons of actors and it’s not always true that everyone has a shot at getting the best role or script.
When Praveen Sattaru came and asked her about the movie; she says that she did not believe what was happening. As soon as she read the script she liked it and went into the roots of the character played by her in the movie. Pooja Kumar plays the role of a patient wife of NIA officer, who is often found in life threatening situations. She says that bringing out a nagging housewife would have ruined the core of the movie’s ethics.
She has been playing wife roles for quite a lot of time in Indian movies (Vishwaroopam 1, 2), when asked about how she feels on playing the same role many times she say that if audience are not bored of seeing her as a housewife she is fine doing it.
Even though this is the first Telugu International Film for Pooja, she was very comfortable doing it. Her other works include, Man on a Ledge, Brawl in Cell Block 99, Bollywood Hero, (starring opposite SNL star Chris Kattan), Flavours, Hiding Divya, Park Sharks, Bollywood Beats, Night of Henna, Anything for You, Drawing with Chalk, Knots Urbane. Her career has a ton of interesting roles. Rumour has it that, she has signed up for a Netflix TV Series.
