Stars join hands to help Chennai
As Chennai battles hard to recover from the most devastating flood in the last one hundred years, many people from all over the country have poured in to show their support for the people of Chennai and are doing all they can do help them cope with this disaster. Recently tinsel town stars Kajal Aggarwal, Rana, Tejaswi, Madhu Shalini and Lakshmi Manchu had visited a shopping mall in Kukatpally one evening to help raise funds to help the victims of the floods in Chennai. However the situation soon got out of hand as hundreds of fans mobbed them, trying to catch a glimpse and chaos reigned.
The Incident
As the stars entered the mall hoping to communicate with the public, people from all around tried to get their hands on the stars. Many fans even fell and injured themselves. As many of them tried to reach the female actors, the security guards and even actor Rana jumped in to stand guard. Even after the actors tried their best to explain that the only purpose of their visit was to help the flood victims, the crowd didn’t rest. Before the situation could go worse, the stars left and took shelter in an upscale coffee shop where they took a photograph of themselves before leaving. They then made their way to a studio where they were joined by Allu Arjun and addressed a press conference.
After the female actresses were dropped, Allu Shirish, Nikhil, Nani and Allari Naresh eventually made their way to a mall in Hitec City where they stars asked the crowd to contribute 10 rupees each to the fund.
The Actors express disappointment
The actors stated that they were extremely disappointed about how things went earlier in the evening. Madhu Shalini said that even though the stars had anticipated a large crowd to be present in the mall, they didn’t expect the situation go wild so quickly. Tejaswi also expressed disappointment in not raising enough funds for the flood victims and admitted that the evening was primarily a failure even though this was a golden opportunity for the public to come in aide of those who had lost their homes and were in severe danger. However the situation improved once the female actors had left and many members of the public came forward to contribute to the cause. The actresses also said they found solace in the fact that they had at least been able to get their message across to the crowd and stated that they would be willing to take such risks again if it meant they could raise money to help the people in need.
Many parts of Chennai are still under water after continuous and heavy rainfall for the past few weeks. Hundreds of people died while many have lost their homes. Electricity and telephone services were greatly hampered and even the city’s international airport and railway station had stopped functioning as the Government of India declared Chennai a ‘disaster zone’. Even though the actual plan by the actors to raise funds didn’t bear fruit, one can’t praise their efforts enough.
