Puli, the fantasy film filled with action-adventure, is all set to release during October 1st, a few months after the Himalayan success of Baahubali, another masterpiece from south India that delivers powerful cinematic performance and insane special effects bordering on similar themes to that of Puli. While Baahubali’s success was unprecedented and it ran in theatres for weeks, Puli, because of its stark similarity to Baahubali’s themes and making is likely to be one too. Although the team of Puli is requesting earnestly not to compare the film with any other film, comparisons have already begun and people are speculating whether it can topple the enormous records that Baahubali has set.
Pressure on the director
While the director, Chimbu Devan has repeatedly urged people to stop mistaking it with Baahubali and let him film be seen as an ambitious film from him, the rumours has it that already the fans are comparing the various aspects of Baahubali and Puli. While it is a big ask since Baahubali has smashed all previous records to become the highest grossing film from south India, and achieved sublime standards despite being a non-Hindi feature. Puli releases in a similar manner in both Tamil and Telugu with dubbed Hindi versions. It is an attempt to break the language barrier across the Indian audience.
The differences
While Puli and Baahubali have similarities on the outset in terms of distribution and perhaps production, there are some differences in the plot and is expected to attract a different pool of crowds compared to Baahubali. While romance was aplenty in Baahubali, it was essentially a war film. But, Puli is a mere fantasy film that plays on the theme of time travel to take it back to the ages of kingdoms and queens where the rest of the story unfolds. So, there are essential differences in the film.
The star-studded cast
Puli is expected to draw crowd by the cast only, a similarity with Baahubali indeed. With Shruti Hasan, Hansika Motwani and the ever-beautiful Sridevi leading the lines, people will be cueing up from the very first day. With a stupendous budget of 118 crore rupees, Puli has left no stones unturned for it to become a blockbuster.
