Auto Nagar Surya, the much awaited action entertainer by Dev Katta, has finally hit the screens, and Naga Chaitanya’s fans have flocked the theaters to watch him in it. The film, after having overcome all the financial problems and reached the screen, has received its verdict.
Positives and Negatives
Auto Nagar Surya is a film meant to highlight Naga Chaitanya who surprises the crowd with his display of acting skills which has faced a lot of questions and criticisms. He has definitely given one of his best performances in the film. He goes beyond his regular style, and mouths powerful dialogues quite impressively. His screen presence, too, is amazing in the film, and he has managed to carry out a rather difficult role with a lot of ease. Apart from him, Nandu, too, has done a superb job as a young actor. He has done justice to the meaty role of Chaitanya’s friend. The storyline and the backdrop connects with the audience well. The execution of some of the scenes of confrontation between Chaitanya and the villains is done nicely. Interesting screenplay and good performances have made the first half quite gripping.
However, the film has some major drawbacks, the first being the extremely long run time. After the gripping first half, the second half is slow and falls through to meet the expectations. The song at the start of the second half itself is disappointing, and the unnecessary use of item song kills the mood even further. It can be said that the 2nd half has been handled rather weakly. There is an overdose of violence. The climax was weak, and the film ended in a hurry, with a predictable closure. Samantha made no contribution to the film, and the talent of Sai Kumar, too, was wasted in the film.
Technical Aspects
The dialogues have been well written, and set nicely against the story. The screenplay is average. While in the first half a good screenplay was palpable, the tempo was dropped in the second half, as it became more commercial, with unrequired songs and scenes. There was ample scope for the elevation of the heroes, but, these were left unutilized. The scenes often end up disappointing the expectation of the viewer completely. Good camerawork showcased the film quite nicely. The art director has done a good job in setting up the Auto Nagar area with a lot of rusticity. Editing could have done away with quite a few scenes and songs, but was otherwise average.
Final Verdict:
Though the film’s beginning is promising, it ultimately fails to maintain the charm till the end. Chaitanya does a good job. But, there is a lack of basic entertainment, with a hurried climax that spoils the film. All in all, it fails as a film, but, showcases Chaitanya well.
