Since the first installment of Baahubali took India by storm and captured the imagination of a Pan Indian audience as well as foreigners and NRIs living abroad, people have been eagerly and impatiently waiting for the second installment ‘Baahubali: The Conclusion’. The Beginning ended rather abruptly with a lot of questions about many of main characters left unanswered. Rumors about the release date of the second installment have been flying since the first part came out. Even though it was clear that Baahubali: The Conclusion would not release until 2017, no one was sure about the exact date. ajnikanth and Bollywood superstar Akshay Kumar are coming up with a film of their own termed ‘2.0’ in 2017 and it is expected to have a blockbuster release. There is a high possibility that the Baahubali: The Conclusion and Rajnikanth’s ‘2.0’ will release on the same date. April 14, 2017 will be the day Tamil Calender begins its new year and as new year has always been a happy period of success in most of the films from Tamil movie industry, the producers of ‘2.0’ are targeting this date for their release. It is expected that new year release will bring tremendous amount of box office collections for the film.
Baahubali: The Conclusion and ‘2.0’ are, however, sequels to two highly successful, blockbuster films.
Both Baahubali; The Beginning and Endhiran (Robot) were big budget films and turned out to be two epic landmarks in South Indian film industry. People have been waiting for the release of not only Baahubali: The Conclusion but also Robot 2. Akshay Kumar’s presence in the film is believed to be instrumental in drawing even bigger crowds to the theaters. However, the problem lies in the fact that if these two epic blockbusters both release on the day of Tamil New Year, they will only harm each other’s chances of earning huge profits and pulling big crowds to the theaters and only cause more losses. Baahubali 2 has been made on a budget of 180 crore rupees while Robot 2’s budget is almost twice the amount. Both films are expected to earn at least around six hundred crores each. It remains to be seen if Robot 2 will change its release date to have an unchallenged monopoly over the box office collections.
