Shankar is a name in Indian Film Industry which always brings high expectation and one who always delivers. From Rajanikanth’s thrilling Endhiran to Boys, Shankar has always hit the peak when coming to his movies. His latest venture I have already made eyebrows rise and have given Goosebumps for audience across India. The breathtaking trailer with may be the best CGI effect Indian has ever seen has made every single audience from SRK to us praise the film. With another legendary name attached to the movie called Mozart AR Rahman, the expectation this time is even higher with even opinions spreading for an Academy Award Nomination. “I” will be a romantic thriller which is produced by Venu Ravichandran. The film script is done by Shankar who directs it too, with Vikram in lead and Amy Jackson as the opposite the film has a great cast that includes some of South India’s best. Art is done by T. Muthuraj and Sreeram handles the cinematography. Telugu version of the film is titled Manoharudu.
The film is done on whooping budget of 1.85 billion which makes it the costliest Indian film to be made. The film scheduled started on July and total shooting took around 3 years. Most of the shooting was done in Outside Indian mainly in Asian countries like China. The film will hit theatres for this Diwali.
Telugu Rights
The film sold its Telugu rights for a breathtaking amount, reports says that R.B Chowdary and N.V.Prasad will produce the film and has gained the rights for distribution. The teaser has already gone viral on internet and Vikram’s brilliant and unique look has made a lot of buzz around audience. Shankar may have hit gold with I which may become one the biggest hits from Indian cinema till date.
Development and pre production
Shankar met writers like Balakrishnan and Suresh and started to work on films script. AR Rahaman was chosen for the soundtrack and that makes it the tenth time that both have collaborated. Yeun Woo Ping knows for action choreography in Matrix was selected for the film to handle stunts, which was under the supervision of Anal Arasu. VFX is another area where the film has major improvement, Rising sun pictures will be handling the VFX under the vision of V. Srinivas. Shankar visited Weta Workshop Company run by directors like Peter Jackson and Richard Taylor.
The major reason for this visit was for getting the unique look for Vikram, as said by Shankar he was taken around Weta workshop and had long discussions about Vikram’s appeal.
Teaser and the viral response from social media
A sneak preview for the song Ennod Nee Irundahaal was released in August, the complete teaser was launched on early September, but it was reported that the teaser was leaked. With the release of teaser Shankar was heavily praised, some considering him as a visual poet of Indian cinema, and with ‘I” Shankar looks to have broken every limits for its visual beauty. The teaser had a view around 1 million within 12 hours after releasing, which made it the first Indian film to do so. The film had a view of around 7 million users in just two weeks. Shankar always brings us over the top highly innovative films, but with “I” Shankar may finally challenge Hollywood.
