One of the most awaited movies of the year, 2.0 starring megastar Rajnikant and Akshay Kumar as the antagonist was released on 10,500 screens worldwide. The movie had a very impressive first day collection at 74 cr across the country. The movie still did not reach the first day gross collection of the movie BAahubali-2 which was released in 2017. Baahubali-2 had the first day gross collection of approximately 155 crores. 2.0 has missed this amount by a huge margin.

Even though the movie did not reach the baahubali-2 collection level, the movie still has had the highest opening for any movie in the year 2018. This position was earlier held by the Amir Khan and Amitabh Bachhan starrer Thugs of Hindusthan. The movie had an opening collection of approx. 63 crores.
The movie also has crossed 100 cr internationally on the first day.
