Nayanthara’s Babu Bangaram is certainly one of the highlighted movies in the movie calendar of Telugu film industry this year. With Brahmotsav and Sardar Gabbar Singh failing to live up to the expectations, the second half of 2016 must bring some new luck and success to Tollywood.
High expectations in Tollywood but not in Tamil Nadu
Babu Bangaram is an action romantic comedy starring Venkatesh and Nayanthara in the lead roles. However, like most popular releases, Babu Bangaram is also all set to be released in the theatres of Tamil Nadu as a dubbed version named Selvi in August itself. For distribution of the film down south in Tamil Nadu, Bhadrakali films have acquired all the rights.
Venkatesh’s lack of popularity in Tamil Nadu
However experts believe that it is not going to be smooth sailing for the film and there are quite a few reasons behind it. First of all, Venkatesh who is a big superstar in Tollywood is not a very well known name in Tamil Nadu. Most Indian films suffer in regions where the actor playing the male lead is not a popular face. This is the reason why only a few films of Tollywood that had starred Venkatesh were released in Tamil Nadu and none of them made any significant profit.
Nayanthara, the main attraction
This is why experts believe that if Babu Bangaram has to work in Tamil Nadu, it has to be primarily because of Nayanthara. Nayanthara is the biggest female star in Tamil Nadu right now and has a huge fan following. Almost all her recent films have done remarkably well down south and this has helped her greatly in cementing her place as the biggest female star down in South India. As Nayanthara has delivered back to back hits and has wowed the crowd, she also demands a hefty fee. In fact, she is the highest paid actress in the south and according to rumors she charges as much as up to four crores for each of her projects. Many believe that this is the reason why the producers of the film have gone with the decision of releasing the film in Tamil Nadu besides Andhra Pradesh simply so that they can leverage her popularity and fan following to make profit. This is why the film has also been marketed and promoted as a female centric film. However the shoot of the film got postponed as Nayanthara had troubles with dates and this is why the film is releasing in August instead of summer.
