A Real Film with Real Characters
Ram Gopal Verma recently made some startling announcements about his upcoming film Vangaveeti. The director who is often credited for changing the Telugu film industry for good and also for being a maverick filmmaker in Bollywood stated that the film will be about real and iconic characters like former Prime Minister Rajeev Gandhi and former chief minister of Andhra Pradesh and superstar N.T. Rama Rao. It is said that the film will also feature characters like renowned, late communist leader Chalasani Venkatratnam, Dasari Naryana Rao and also Devineni Nehru. However Vangaveethi Radha, Vangaveethi Mohana Ranga will be central characters in the film. Vangaveethi, as stated by Ram Gopal Verma, will be a story of the rise of Radha and will reach its conclusion with the death of Vangaveethi Mohana Ranga.
RGV to end his career in Tollywood with Vangaveethi
In another shocking statement, Ram Gopal Verma added that Vangaveethi is going to be his last project in the Telugu film industry. He stated that he enjoyed the story of Vangaveethi so much and found it so intense that he is convinced that he won’t ever receive another script like this in the future and that is why he chose this to be the film with which he would draw the line to his Telugu film career.
However, this may very well be a publicity stunt and an attempt to help Vangaveethi hog all the limelight. It is not very rare to see a director quit temporarily and then make a comeback after a period of absence or non productivity. Only time will tell about the truth in Ram Gopal Verma’s statements. However, it can certainly be expected that the announcement of Vangaveethi featuring real political characters will not only draw a lot of attention but start a great storm in the current political scenario in the state of Andhra Pradesh. Vangaveethi also has already managed to cook up its share of controversy with the lyrics of a particular song in the movie which has words like ‘Kapu’ and ‘Kamma’. Matters are expected to exacerbate as time progresses.
Even though Ram Gopal Verma kicked off his career with the Telugu movie Shiva twenty seven years ago, he is an equally revered director in the Hindi film industry where he has delivered highly critically acclaimed films like Sarkar, Satya, Rakta Charitra, Sarkar Raj and also mainstream hits like Rangeela.
