A Decade of Success
Kajal Aggarwal is a known name and an identifiable face all across India. However, her main stardom is down south where she has reigned as one of the most prolific and consistent superstars in the past ten years in the Telugu film industry. Even though there are many actors and actresses coming up with immense talent and surprising maturity in almost every regional film industry in India, ruling the box office in almost every film for ten years and still managing to draw huge masses to the theater for such a long time is something quite rare, especially in today’s time where success is short lived and stardom is rather superficial.
Being selective goes a long way
On being asked about the secret behind the longevity of her career, like many other successful and intelligent icons in the Telugu film industry, Kajal credited the content of the films and the depth of her roles in them primarily for her success. According to Kajal, one of the key factors that play a huge, instrumental role in defining one’s success in a mainstream film industry is the quality of the characters that one plays and not his or her image. She opined that an actor is only as good as her last role. For Kajal, the quality of the script is also very important. She mentioned that she is very selective about her roles and won’t do films just for the sake of box office and that she always keenly listens to her heart before she takes the decision to take up a role in any movie. One bad role or one unimpressive performance can lead to a long chain of failures and if that had indeed happened to her, she couldn’t have survived so long in Tollywood, at least not on the top. Even now after ten years, Kajal is being integral parts of some of the most hyped and talked about films that the Telugu Film Industry is producing, like Sardaar Gabbar Singh where she shares the screen with actors like Pawan Kalyan, Rai Laxmi, Sharad Kelkar etc. Sardar Gabbar Singh is expected to be one of the biggest releases in the year 2016 and has already earned a table profit with a twenty crore deal between the makers and Indra Films for rights in the Nizam region. She is also in Brahmotsavam, which is her second film with Mahesh Babu.
