What is the controversy about
Vishal’s Telugu movie ‘Kathakali’ has landed in fresh controversy over the actor’s use of the world condom in the trailer of the movie? In the trailer, Vishal can be seen inside a store, asking actress Catherine Tresa who plays the female lead in the movie for a condom. Catherine replies in Tamil that it is not available. The controversy was fueled by a tweet of senior actress Raadhikaa Sarathkumar which stated that the use of the word ‘condom’ in the movie trailer should be deemed offensive and even her small son is asking questions about it out of curiosity.
What Vishal said
The Tamil media contacted Vishal about this issue and he stood his ground and clearly asserted that he does not think the usage of the word ‘condom’ can be of any controversy. Moreover, he also added that it is unfair to call the trailer of the movie offensive just on the basis of one word that had been used as a passing comment. He said that he believes that it is only fair that the whole context of the dialogue is taken into consideration before such comments are made against it. While talking to the media personnel he went on to add that in the movie ‘Kathakali’ actress Catherine Tresa plays the role of a student who is studying BPharm and hence the word ‘condom’ was never used with any hidden or different intention.
Old foes, new fight
However, it is not unknown to anybody that Vishal and actress Raadhikaa Sarathkumar have not been in very friendly terms for quite some time. They have locked horns on quite a few issues before and it all exacerbated during Nadigar Sangam last year election. Tamil film fan still remember their fight. They had exchanged comments and did not hesitate to accuse and counter accuse each other till the very end of the election.
The Regional Censor Board has no problems with the usage of the world in the trailer of the film whatsoever and has issued ‘U’ certificate to the film. Pandiraj is both the writer and director of the film.
