S.S.Thaman has been growing significantly as a power packed music composer and even hit the 50 films milestone this year. He has been instrumental in changing the trend of music in Telugu Films with heavy orchestration and typical usage of voices and sounds in his songs. Known for his heavy sounding re-recording for his films, Thaman scored it big till this year.
There has been lot of opposition and criticism over Thaman’s music for being repetitive or inspired from some foreign music right from his early days and it has become even more obvious this year. He received criticism for copying the famous Italian song Bella Ciao and Lion King song in Businessman earlier. But in this year 2013, despite scoring hits with Nayak, Baadshah and Balupu, Thaman has received so much criticism that some people even started calling him ‘Same to Same Thaman’ matching his initials S.S.Thaman!
Baadshah’s hit song ‘Banthi Poola Janaki’ reminds every listener irresistibly of ‘Dethadi’ from Dookudu which was also scored by Thaman. In fact, even in Jr.NTR starrer Ramaiya Vastavayya, many songs sounded very much like his earlier film songs. Similar style of orchestration, heavy usage of percussions, and repetitive chorus might have got the name ‘Thaman’ brand, but they are not helping the songs to stand out. If Thaman doesn’t realize this and continues to give songs in repeat mode, it would be quite difficult for him to sustain in Tollywood.
iQlik Movies hopes that 2014 would be a better realization year for Thaman with respect to composing!
